How useful is Swinub?
Swinub is fairly common, but it evolves into the powerful Piloswine and, debuting on Community Day, the formidable third evolution Mamoswine – the best ice Type in the game – and that’s without factoring the exclusive move.
Though you might have both Swinub and Piloswine already, it’s worth catching as many as you can to get the most powerful Mamoswine on the day.
Will there be a shiny?
There’s no confirmation of a shiny this time, but seeing as every other community day so far has had a shiny version, it’s almost certain there’ll be a shiny Swinub available here.
Keep your eyes peeled then! And remember that Shinies don’t appear in the same place for everyone like high-IV Pokémon; there’s a random chance of each one that you start a battle with being shiny for you alone. Keep searching, and you should get a few. We recommend you try and aim for three if you can, so you can have one of each evolution in your box at the same time.
How to prepare for Community Day
First of all, make sure you go into Community Day with a Sinnoh Stone at hand. Though you have more chances to get one on the day from Trainer Battles, it’s not guaranteed – so having one means with certainty you’ll get a Miloswine with the unique move.
Otherwise, with three times Stardust from catching, consider a Star Piece to get even more gains as you get into a Swinub-catching frenzy.
If you plan to chain catches, you may also want to consider staying near a clustered group of PokéStops with Lures enabled (which increases the creatures that spawn round them for all players), as well as using Incense (increase the spawn rate of creatures around you alone).
It may also be worth stockpiling Pinap Berries and Great or Ultra Balls, too. The Pinaps will increase your Candy gains – useful for evolving and powering up after the event ends – and you can really burn through Poké Balls over the course of the event.
